More Hudwits and Nelson's Sparrows

More Hudsonian Godwits have descended upon us!  Twelve were at McLean Conservation Lands on September 29.  Kind of expected!  Coincidentally, that is the same number that was at Glencoe previously.  Those had left just before that, so one could speculate that they were the same ones.  We cannot tell for certain though!

A number were found in north Lambton County as well near Greenway.  Actually, it was an excellent spot for shorebirds according to the reports.

Looking at reports all over southern Ontario, it is certainly a banner year for Hudsonian Godwit visitors.

As expected, Nelson's Sparrows have also made their appearance.  Seems they are seen more often than it the past, but perhaps we are looking with more effort now.  Many are once again at Keith McLean C. L.

Late Friday, for something to do, I headed to McLean's and saw some Nelson's in short order.

There was one 'Hudwit' in view at this time as well.

Several other shorebirds were feeding, including a Long-billed Dowitcher.  Expected at this date of course.

Today, I went down to Rondeau Park and checked out south point trail.  It was somewhat busy, but certainly the birds of the day were kinglets.  They were everywhere in the park in good numbers.

I found several species of warblers, including Chestnut-sided.  This one was quite young.

After exhausting most possibilities in the park, I stopped by McLean's.  Nelson's Sparrow were seen with no effort at all!

I saw at least six in two locations.  One wonders how many are really out there.  This one had more gray on it.

Most of the shorebirds were across the water in the distance.  Included were three Hudsonian Godwits, four Long-billed Dowitchers, and others.  Too distant for a proper photo attempt.  A scope was quite helpful today.

oh well!

Some decent butterflies have been showing up, especially at Point Pelee.  I may try and check that out!

Meanwhile, checkered skippers are quite plentiful.
