Point Pelee Leps August 7

Variegated Fritillary on wood

It was great weather today, especially to be out counting butterflies at Point Pelee.  A group of us worked the south half of the park and came up with about 28 species.  The highlight was Variegated Fritllary along the edge of West Beach Trail towards the Tip.  This is actually the first one I have seen at Point Pelee!
While looking at that, a Wild Indigo Duskywing appeared.  A few minutes later we saw another duskywing along the trail.

Painted Ladies have finally come in, at least in numbers.  Previously this summer we were only seeing American Lady.  We did not have an American Lady today!

Buckeyes were far fewer in numbers than previous visits.  Many of those today were quite worn.
Little Yellows have come and gone. We did not see a single one today!

Dukes' Skipper

Despite an effort, we did not see a Juniper Hairstreak, although I did see something fly out of a Red Cedar that could have been one.
Lots of Snouts today.

Beside the V. C. parking lot, I caught sight of Cedar Waxwings pulling webbing for nesting material.
