Got out briefly in the boat today. One unique ship was downbound at Port Lambton. The M/V Palabora is a new ship that came out earlier this year. It is a heavy lift vessel. Not sure of its mission, but the owners are based in Denmark.
With time on my hands lately, I have watched insects and birds pass through the yard. A number of different dragonflies had come and gone. Yesterday a very fresh female Eastern Pondhawk briefly alighted on a Geranium. I have not seen that one in the yard before.
Several butterflies have passed through including Giant Swallowtail, Tiger Swallowtail, Red-spotted Purple, both (common) sulphurs etc. Today I caught sight of a Peck's Skipper. It is a regular visitor each summer. Last week a Silver-spotted Skipper bounced around the back porch.
I once had a Gray Hairstreak quite a few years ago. That was probably the best yard butterfly, besides the supposed Cloudless Sulphur two years ago. I have not seen one anywhere yet this year! Maybe tomorrow...
A Gray Catbird was in the yard this morning. Not sure where it came from since I have not seen one here since early May. Probably a post-breeding wanderer.
Yellow Warblers are passing through.
Yesterday at Stewart Wetland along the Snye, some shorebirds included 2 Solitary Sandpipers, a Pectoral and a few Killdeer. Not sure where the Great Egret has gone. It has been there all summer.
