I took quite a few photos yesterday while out in the kayak. Some not so good since it was difficult at times to stay steady.
There are a number of islands there, constantly changing depending on the winter weather and water levels. Last winter it did not freeze much and there was lots of winds. There used to be small trees on the one island, but they were destroyed last year.
It is very shallow out there and it is almost possible one could wade out to the islands from the south beach of Rondeau.
I saw several turtle heads popping up along the way. Many were probably Map Turtles. Here is one on the mud. (or part of one!)
Shorebird species out there yesterday included Black-bellied Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Spotted Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Ruddy Turnstone, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Buff-breasted Sandpiper, and Red-necked Phalarope.
On our way out, a Common Goldeneye was in the harbour. Rather early for one!
