Friday's Fliers

Little to report the last couple of days, but I spent some time after work today looking for butterflies and birds.

First stop was Brander Park, Port Lambton to check the gardens.  One never know, a Long-tailed Skipper could be lurking around!  However, just the usuals, with lots of Fiery and Peck's Skippers.

I stopped by Stewart Wetland and noted (finally) a Red-necked Phalarope.  It had to happen at some point since these creatures seem to be everywhere lately.  First time I have seen one there.  I know there were two in May 2006 when some birders came to see the female Ruff that I located there.

Speaking of Ruff, is someone going to find one this fall? LOL.
A few of the common shorebirds were feeding there.  Water levels keep dropping here.  We are approaching record low levels in the lakes!  Boat wells are becoming too shallow!
A couple of Black-crowned Night-Herons were present as well.  Not many birds there all week, but I kept checking.

There was another mega influx of Common Painted Lady this week.  The last couple of days the roads were littered with them dead or alive.

Almost forgot to mention I saw a hairstreak at noon today at the workplace!!  It was on goldenrod but as I approached it was bothered by a bee or something and it took off.  Could have been a Gray or White-M!  I hate those events when you don't get a good look at something good.
