Broken Buckeye (must have emerged locally)
I took it easy today, and checked out a few spots north of Wallaceburg today. By noon it was too hot and humid to do anything anyway!
At the east end of Burman Line I did not come up with any Dickcissels, but watched a flock of over 100 Bobolinks in the grasses. It is amazing how many can hide there! I stood watching as bunches of them came up and I counted over 100 just in this one small field.
Field Sparrow on post
Next stop was at McKeough CA where I wanted to check for dragonflies. I met up with Bruce Ripley from Kingston who was doing his annual tour.
Boreal Bruce on the Duthill Bridge!
Last year we missed Flag-tailed Spinyleg, but I had one staked out before he arrived. It was a lifer that he always wanted to get.
Resident of the north Sydenham
Royal River Cruisers were patrolling the river. Bruce got that one last year on his visit though.
We checked the ponds at McKellar on Bickford Line for other odes. Nothing special there. Solitary Sandpipers were at three ponds. Living up to its name, it was the shorebird of the day!
I found another Solitary farther down the road later at a bridge where I wanted to look for more odes, but came up with little in the dragonfly department other than more Royal River Cruisers. Mocha Emeralds have been seen at that location in the past.
Ebony Jewelwing (common at Moore)
We went into Moore to one of my favourite spots along the river. Here we saw Fawn Darners and more Royal River Cruisers among a few common things. No Blue-tipped Dancers today, but we had them last year. Some days there can be lots of odes here.
Snowberry Clearwing from yesterday
(Hummingbird Clearwing was also at this location!)
While there, a Blue-winged Warbler was feeding along the river, and a Green Heron was making some noises nearby.
Eight-spotted Forester from yesterday
