Weekend Scenes

Cell #3 shorebird habitat

Yesterday I started at Rondeau Park. Not many birds to look at, but a few butterflies were out. Photos below.
I stopped at Blenheim Lagoons later in the morning and looked at shorebirds. Nothing new!

Today, Sunday, I heard that an orange male Ruff was seen at Blenheim, so I headed down there late afternoon. There were many more shorebirds than yesterday for sure. I could not find an "orange" male Ruff, but I did find a Ruff! It was perhaps a dark female. These birds are so highly variable, and sometimes sexing can be difficult, so it gets confusing! Too far away for a photo. Keith and Jim Burk also saw the bird later.

This morning I checked out some prairie spots north of Wallaceburg. Many species of wildflowers are now coming into bloom. (I saw my first Buckeye butterfly of the year at McKellar Tract.) Wood Nymph butterflies are still very plentiful right now.
