A Summer's Day!

The weather, after being cold and damp all week, was finally very nice today. I took advantage and went out this afternoon looking for butterflies.
Hairstreaks have finally made a good showing! There were dozen's out on the milkweed--mostly Banded and Edwards' with a few Hickory and a couple of Coral. I also found two Southern (Northern Oak) Hairstreaks after some effort. One was very fresh, while the other was a bit worn.

Several Skippers were around too, including a very worn Hobomok, Peck's, Northern Broken Dash, Delaware, Dun, and Silver-spotted. (European too!).

another Southern Hairstreak!

In the more wooded areas were the Little Wood Satyrs and Appalachian Eyed-Browns.
Tiger Swallowtails, Red-spotted Purples and Great Spangled Fritillaries, Common Wood Nymphs, and Commas were also flying. Summer Azures and Eastern Tailed-Blues were out too.

Edwards' Hairstreak (one of about 30 in a small stretch!)

Not sure about the skipper below. It was large and dark....
