River Ramble and More

A little light on subject matter lately, but with the more frigid weather lately, we are finding more gulls and ducks on the river.  This past Saturday I checked out the St. Clair River and Sarnia.  Certainly a far cry from the "old days", but more Redhead ducks were around.  Not many Canvasbacks like there used to be.  Seems they like the Detroit River in recent years!

Sarnia Bay had lots of gulls and ducks.  Some scenes:

A massive flock of Redhead was at the mouth of Lake Huron, but kept moving farther out and up the Michigan shoreline.

I drove back home along some back roads but birds were few and far between.  I even stopped at Moore WMA for a walk.  Not sure what is going on there, but the last couple of winters there have been few birds.  It used to be a hopping place in winter!

American Tree Sparrow

I did  brief walk at McKeough, and the same thing.  The Long-eared Owls did not stay this winter.

Sunday, I went down to Rondeau and managed to pick up on a first-of-year Red-throated Loon.

The usual birds were in the campground to keep us busy for a while.

I stopped by Ridgetown Lagoons.  Ten Snow Geese were present, and some other waterfowl in the open areas.

Another weekend is fast approaching....hopefully something of note will cross my path for a change.
