Unfortunately, there was not a big variety of shorebirds today, but enough to keep one busy sorting through.
About nine species of shorebirds were present.
A couple of days ago, an American Avocet stopped by. Some lucky members of the Sarnia birding club got to see it!
The Common Gallinule family was visible, as was a Sora family.
I spent over two hours there racking up about 44 species.
I had the idea to check out Joany's Woods next and walk a portion that I had not experienced before. I basically walked along the river and when all was said and done, it was over 8 km! I was hoping to get looks at some odes, but did not have very good luck. One cannot get very close to the river as the bank is very steep and almost vertical in many locations.
The following photo, highly cropped, shows the opposite side of the river where I saw a Black-shouldered Spinyleg resting.
I did see some Black-shouldered Spinylegs and a couple other common dragonflies. There were lots of dancers in the form of Blue-fronted and Powdered and others.

I found a couple of Fawn Darners at different locations. I never see many of these creatures, so they were nice to find.
I happened to meet up with James Holdsworth along the river who was looking for odes. He had better luck than I, so I will have to make another attempt some day.
Bird life was very quiet as some birds have dispersed after nesting. I did not encounter a single Blue-winged Warbler, which are quite common at Joany's.

After the 8km+ walk (in boots!), I was rather tired so did not have much ambition on the way home. I did however stop at Moore WMA to look for Mocha Emeralds. I was successful in seeing a couple of individuals motor on by for brief views.
A little tributary creek is the place to find them.
Ebony Jewelwings are very common here.
Some Royal River Cruisers were seen at this location. Cruising on by, of course!
At the river crossing I checked out the mussel shells. One can find various species.

I will have to dig out some photos from the past to see what other species I have seen.
