Shorebirds are passing through in numbers, but viewing spots around here are few. There is (or was!) a small puddle in a field near my work place that has had Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpipers, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers. the hot sunny weather this week has dried things up.
Stewart Wetland is no good for shorebirds this year with the high water levels.

It has been a poor year for butterflies and dragonflies, but new broods of butterflies have shown this week. The second brood of Common Ringlets is coming out, and more swallowtails are appearing. I have seen lots of Giant Swallowtails this past week. Red-spotted Purples are freshly out.
This evening I came across four Edwards' Hairstreaks at Reid CA. It is getting late for them, and of course these were very worn.
I saw only one Broad-winged Skipper but no Dukes' this evening. I think the Dukes' go to bed early!

I recently found a few photos of the trip to Squirrel Island back in 2008. We were looking at a prairie site that contained Pink Milkwort. Clint Jacobs was leading the group in this unique site.
Things have slowed down at work, as usual for this time of year. Just finished this 'refresher' job today!
Holiday weekend coming up. How much rain will we get?

ReplyDeleteThanks Dwayne! That was a unique site. Unfortunately there was severe erosion along the St. Clair River there. Clint said at one point they watched Yellow Ladies Slippers (among other things) getting washed into the river!
