River Report

(photo from early March 2008 at LGS)

A short post tonight.  I checked out the river after work this afternoon.
Most of the gulls have dispersed from the St. Clair River.   I saw about 3 Glaucous Gulls up to LGS.  A first cycle Iceland Gull, likely the same one that has been there all along, was at LGS.  Other than that, very few gulls for now.

Thousands of ducks, especially Canvasback and Redhead, were all along the way.  Ice has piled up or formed along the shoreline, so some ducks were not too close.
A couple of White-winged Scoters were at Fawn Island.  Ring-necked Ducks were mixed in here and there.
So nothing new at least on the river, and as spring arrives, birds will spread out.

Geese are arriving along the Lake Erie shoreline, and yesterday Steve Charbonneau reported ten Ross's Geese just north of Erieau in a field.  Another single was near Shrewsbury, likely the same one that has been around for a week.
I will be heading down to Erieau/Rondeau tomorrow to see what is around.  Tonight it got foggy for a while here due to the mild air, but now it has lifted.
