No new photos this week.
Another week has come and gone! The days are much too short now so I get little birding in during the week. We had some nice mornings this week. Heard a few Common Redpolls flying over on a couple of days. A good winter for finches is on the way.
Chickadees are on the move this fall for sure. The last couple of weekends I have noticed many moving through, especially at Rondeau. Some arrived at my feeder this week and will likely stay the winter.
A number of White-winged Scoters have been hanging around Port Lambton all week. Usually they don't stay in the river for any length of time.
The male-like female Mallard still swims by Port Lambton each day. This duck has been around about five years!
I still hope to see Cave Swallows this year. Steve Charbonneau finally reported some for Erieau this afternoon. Perhaps some will be around this weekend. Erieau has always been a good place to find them. I recall the first time back in 1999 I think and I rushed down to see them.
Some Sandhill Cranes were seen west of Wallaceburg today. I have not seen any in several weeks though along the usual route. The last few years many have congregated west of Wallaceburg in the corn fields.
A good finch fall. I have seen all of the usual finches so far. No Pine Grosbeak yet though. They are extremely rare in these parts, but I think this year we may see some!
Evening Grosbeak
On to another weekend. Let us see what turns up!
the odd woodcock is still around
