Rondeau Report September 22

I went down to Rondeau this morning in anticipation of finding lots of birds.  Wrong!  Surprisingly there were few birds to look at.  A few warblers and vireos here and there.  The best group was behind maintenance with about ten species of warblers.
I started at south point trail.  A Solitary Sandpiper greeted me at the parking lot.  Still rather dark!

A few groups of White-throated Sparrows were around and a couple of Dark-eyed Juncos.
I walked out south beach and quite a few things were moving.  Several Greater Yellowlegs were the only shorebirds out there.
A number of Great Egrets are still around--I counted 34.  Probably more out there.

Lots of ducks moving around as it was hunting day.
Quite a few Red-breasted Nuthatches needless to say.

Several Bald Eagles were around today.

After finishing in the park, I headed over to Ridgetown.  The same shorebirds are still there!  However most were in the pond at the viewing stand.  The Red Knot was fairly close, but lighting was horrible as usual.
One Snow Goose present among the Canada Geese.
Next stop was Blenheim and I met up with Steve Charbonneau.  Five Red-necked Phalaropes were there this time.  The Red-necked Grebe was still in pond 3, but difficult to see as it spends much time underwater. It can easily be missed.
We saw no shorebirds other than the phalaropes.  A Solitary Sandpiper was listed previously by J. Bruce Falls though.
