Didn't do much today!
Yesterday at Point Pelee as well as lots of butteflies, there were lots of dragonflies. Many species were present. At the Tip, dozens of Blue Dashers were hanging around a shrub. The males are an attractive blue.
This morning a quick walk at Reid CA revealed many Eastern Tailed-Blue butterflies. There seemed to be very few earlier in the summer, but lately they have been abundant. I saw lots at Point Pelee yesterday as well.
I also came across a small group of warblers consisting of Black-throated Blues, Blackpoll, Bay-breasted, Black and White, Magnolia, American Redstarts, Common Yellowthroats.
Along the road were Eastern Bluebirds just north of Reid. The corner there (Duthill Rd. and Tulloch Line) used to be nicknamed "Bluebird Corners" as there were always bluebirds around. The pastures are virtually all gone now and trees cut down, so rarely do you see bluebirds there anymore!
Along the St. Clair River, the classic laker J. W. Shelley was downbound at Port Lambton. With its bright blue livery, it is an attractive ship. It was built in 1968 as the Algocen. It was thought to be retired a few years ago and was taken down to New Jersey. But, it was rescued and put back into service. It was held up at the Soo yesterday due to the strong winds.
Blake, great posting! I love the blue theme concept.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad about the loss of Bluebird habitat. It's depressing, particularily in light of Ojibway park here in Windsor.
