Some final results of recent butterfly counts were revealed today. The Ojibway count tallied 52 species. Here is their list:

Buckeye 1, Red-spotted Purple 1, Viceroy 24, N. Pearly-eye 18, Eyed Brown 9, Appalachian Brown 19, Little Wood-Satyr 94, Com. Wood-Nymph 173, Monarch 78, Silver-spotted Skipper 37, S. The Rondeau count from July 11 came in at 47 species. That is an excellent total that ties the 2004 number. Good butterflies there included a Pipevine Swallowtail, Little Yellow, Snout (7-a new high), and Northern Cloudywing (2). Records were smashed for Summer Azure (433), Mulberry Wing (67), Broad-winged Skipper (72) and Dion Skipper (22).
Despite the fewer overall numbers, species variety was there!
