Butterfly Season

Got out for a quick walk at noon today and noticed lots of butterflies flying.  The warm sunny weather has brought many out.  Common Wood Nymphs are really plentiful right now, as well as Little Wood Satyrs.

Common Wood Nymph

Sulphurs have been scarce up until lately, but more are out.  At the work place, I saw a small sulphur fly by which could have been a Little Yellow.

Last Sunday's Little Yellow at Pelee

I was not in a position to get a good look though.  I have had a number of butterflies just out the door at work in the past including Buckeye, Peck's, Delaware and others.  You just have to keep your eyes open and pay attention!
I saw my first Striped Hairstreak today. These ones are easy to ID with all the "stripes" on them!

On the same dogwood flower was a Coral Hairstreak.  I came back less than ten minutes later, and two Banded were on the same flower!  The other two were nowhere to be found.

The hairstreaks constantly change over.  I did not see a Southern Hairstreak today.  I only have seen the one last Sunday so far.

I did not have the camera today, so any photos here are from the past!
