Heritage Day

Sunny Day? NOT!!
I think the above photo says it all for today. It was supposed to be sunny all day, but the sun was out for less than two hours this morning at Rondeau. In fact, it was a rather gloomy weekend. Once again, the weather forecast was......well.....you know.
It was rather nice first thing this morning--very calm and bright sun. Soon the sun was gone. It was nice for a walk in the woods, but very few birds were around. The usual birds were absent from the campground.
Down at South Point Trail, I was greeted by the drumming of a Pileated Woodpecker. Later on, I saw another near the lakeshore. It was my first encounter for 2010.
This afternoon I saw the posting about an Ivory Gull at Toronto. The ice partridge only makes it to the Great Lakes every few years. To boot, this was an adult! Most records are of immatures. I don't feel too bad about missing this one since I found one on the St. Clair River December 23, 1995. It was my most exciting rare bird find. Oh, the good 'ole days.....!

  1. I missed the Ivory by about half an hour today! Will be looking for this one during the week to be sure. I'll keep you updated.

  2. Blake,

Your comments about the weather are too funny!

I'm excited to hear that there is a pileated woodpecker at Rondeau. I might go out there from Windsor after work Friday. Did you see/hear it near the south trail? Any suggestions on locations?
