I met up with Allen Woodliffe who was admiring several Red-necked Phalaropes at close range. He up to six, but four were close by when I arrived.
After some nice chit chat, two more arrived and six were swimming closeby.
Several shorebirds were in view including yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper and others.
I went back to pond 5 and many shorebirds were there. While viewing the many species, five Red-necked Phalaropes flew in. They initiated their spinning routine.
I wondered if these were different ones, or some of the same.
I went back to the first pond and saw three, so still a total of 8 Red-necked Phalaropes are at Blenheim. Same one as the weekend I guess.
Wilson's Phalaropes were nowhere to be found tonight.
One needs to keep checking! Blenheim is due for a godwit or two or something!
Not a Kingbird!!
I hear you on the weekday birding. Last time I saw a Red-necked Phalarope was at the Blenheim sewage lagoons during last year's convention.
