Rondeau Birds/Insects August 24

Viceroys and bumblebee on Buttonbush

Things were a bit quiet today, but the weather was almost perfect. I checked out Rondeau Park. I saw a few migrants and other birds. There were quite a few Red-headed Woodpeckers around early in the morning. I saw the first Gray-cheeked Thrush of the fall. It is a bit early to see that one!
I walked out south point beach and saw lots of Viceroy butterflies. They outnumbered Monarchs! Warblers were out there too.

Warblers included Blue-winged, Nashville, Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Bay-breasted, Black-and-White, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Mourning Warbler, and Canada Warbler.

Out on the lake, a large number of Common Terns were flying around. Lots of Caspian as well.
Common dragonflies were around such as Black Saddlebags, Giant Green Darner, Ruby Meadowhawk, etc.

I also went over to Erieau and walked the R/R track trail. Some warblers were there also plus a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. A Green Heron was skulking in the reeds.
