Not much to report lately, as things have been slow, but Christmas Bird Counts are under way, albeit under different circumstances this year.
I was out today after we received a good dumping of snow. In the afternoon it kept snowing till evening, and we probably got more than 20 cm of snow around here.
This morning I drove along the St. Clair River. Hardly any ducks on the river as expected. Maybe there is something of interest out there!
I looked around a bit along the shorelines, not finding much.
Gulls are building up and we can hope that this winter is like last year, especially farther up the river.
We need to get consistant cold weather to freeze things up, but our winters are much milder than when I was young!

There was no ship traffic on the river when I was out, unlike the old days when there was much to see. As I always pass by Seager Park (aka "The Willows",our favourite for picnics when I was young), I think of the Ivory Gull I found there December 1995.

Would be nice to see one of those again!
As expected the winter finches moved right on through, but redpolls are certainly out there.
Sunday is the Wallaceburg CBC, and I would think it will be rather quiet for numbers of birds. However, some interesting birds always turn up when we scour the countryside.
Stay tuned!
