Wanderings of the Week

The past week has been on the cool side with a relentless wind every day.  Migration is certainly stalled a bit as little has been showing up yet.  It remains a mystery what is showing up at our favourite haunts for this time of year!
Some mornings were below freezing.

Some bird rarities will certainly remain unseen this spring, but others have shown up in accessible spots.  A long-staying Black-necked Stilt has found comfort at Hillman Marsh.  It was first found on April 8 by the "Afternoon Shift" (in the morning).

Locally, I have been going for long walks at conservation areas north of town.  I have had my eyes to the ground, since there are few birds.  Spring plants are coming through.

Wild Ginger
Large White Trillium
Dutchman's Breeches

Purple Cress
Virginia Waterleaf

A beaver made an appearance earlier this past week at Moore WMA.  Beavers seem to be everywhere anymore!

This morning started out fairly nice with a southwest wind, but later some weather came in and the wind abruptly switched to the NE!
I took a long walk through Reid CA once again.

Once in a while some very large trees just decide to fall.  This Red Oak took the plunge.

On to another week of unknowns....
