Recent Photos and Cave Swallow Season
Cave Swallow season is here. Some have already been seen in NY State! Strangely, none were found in Ontario last year, but I am sure some will appear soon. Certain places along Lake Erie and Ontario are good to see them. Point Pelee, Erieau, Long Point, Hamilton are good points to stake them out. Two years ago 35+ were seen at Erieau. It was neat to see that many in one spot.
This was one photo attempt at a flyby two years ago....
We should hope for a Violet-Green as well!
Yesterday we talked about Cave Swallows at Point Pelee, but only saw Trees.
Saw this frog hopping around the Tip yesterday.....
A few Yellow-billed Cuckoos were around on the weekend. Black-billed are long gone, but perhaps a late one is still lingering around.
Blue Jays at Pelee's Tip..... (and American Goldfinch).....
On the way home I swung around to Lighthouse Cove. The low water levels were certainly evident....
Lighthouse Cove is a neat spot in the winter if there is not too much ice. Lots and lots of gulls and waterfowl hang out there. Last winter was spectacular, but I never found anything rare. Lots of Glaucous and Iceland Gulls.
These recent winds should have brought in something of interest. Get out there and look around!

Blake, nice Monday posting. The flight photos were great. Thanks for the heads-up on the winter gulls... two potential laurus lifers!
ReplyDeleteLooked for Cave Swallow today at the tip! We had 45 swallows total flying south this morning made up of Tree and Northern Rough-winged and a single Barn Swallow but no Cave. Hope the first one shows up soon in Ontario.
