Quiet Day

A short blog today--little bird activity in these parts!  Rondeau was terribly slow for birds this cloudy morning.  The few birds around were buried in the dogwoods avoiding falcons and accipiters.  A nice Peregrine Falcon was swooping around Rondeau's south point trail first thing.
I checked out Ridgetown lagoon but little was there also.  As usual, lighting was horrible there for viewing.  I did see a dowitcher species among Lesser Yellowlegs.

Blenheim was still good for shorebirds at the sprinklers, but just as I arrived, a Peregrine Falcon swooped in and scattered the birds.  Maybe it got that Red Knot from Thursday!
I waited patiently and eventually the birds came back.  Actually some never left as the sprinklers were on and they sort of hid under the water streams.  However, they were frozen stiff from fear.

The wary Lesser Yellowlegs

There were fewer yellowlegs than yesterday, but I counted 9 Stilt Sandpipers plus two dowitchers today.  The Wilson's Phalarope was still there as was a White-rumped Sandpiper and only one Pectoral. The water was much higher today, and when the birds came back in, the Pectoral was practicing its swimming skills.

I could not locate the Horned Grebe, so perhaps it finally left.

  1. It has been slow around here for passerines this week as well. Lots of raptors to see though which is nice. We need a big cold front to come in :)
