Another Kick at the Can (or ball?)

Montrealais in Pelee Passage

Ventured down to Point Pelee again this Saturday.  Started with a Tip Watch.  Lots of gulls were way out, including a Sabine's Gull spotted by Alan.  Just too far to get a look at!  One of these days soon will be really good.
Hardy any ducks, but I did have a female Surf Scoter fly by.
Several hummingbirds were flying off the Tip as usual.

After it warmed up, I looked for butterflies along West Beach.  Fiery Skippers were still the most numerous, and I spotted at least 68.  Breaking it down, I had 32 from the Serengetti Tree to West Beach P. L., 14 south of Black Willow, 17 north of Black Willow and 5 at the old maintenance.

I had only one definite Gray Hairstreak at Black Willow.

The only dusky-wing was a Wild Indigo (worn) at the old maintenance.  There is a patch of Crown Vetch there that they stick close to.

Buckeyes were plentiful, but I did not make a count.  I had well over 100 though.  I saw one of the Rosa form  which is more reddish underneath.

Painted Lady was still quite common.
Three Snouts were at NW Beach.  Here is one on Fleabane:

I missed Little Yellow (Steve Pike had one) and Variegated Fritillary (Bob Yukich had one at the old Admin.).  It was a very fresh one judging by his photo.

I did not look at warblers, but a few were around.
Lots of shorebirds were at Hillman bridge, as well as egrets.

It has been quite a ball looking for butterflies at Point Pelee this season!
