Chilled Tundra Swans
Just too cold to go anywhere for a walk today. Even ducks were hunkered down (wherever they were).
Some wintering Tundra Swans were off ICI this morning. Until a few years ago, we never saw Tundras wintering on the St. Clair River. Now we get several, and you have to pick them out from the hoardes of Mute Swans.
I did see some Long-tailed Ducks off Seager Park. They had no problem with this weather since they are a "sea" duck. That is another duck that is becoming more regular on the St. Clair River. There have always been lots at Sarnia, but south of that, they were almost non-existant.
Seager Park is one of my favourite spots to sit and watch the river. Not only is it a good spot to see waterfowl, the ships come in fairly close. It was one of our favourite picnic spots when I was very young. We called it "The Willows".
This is also the very spot I first found the Ivory Gull December 1995.
The photo below, although poor, shows me on a log with the steamer South American in the background. I distinctly remember this day!
